The amount of data being collected in both the public and private sectors is in a word, staggering. There are estimates that at least 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created each day [That’s 2.5 x 10^18!]. Unsurprisingly much of that data goes unused. Research by Forrester shows that between 60% and 73% of all data within an enterprise goes unused for business intelligence (BI) and analytics. One reason XBRL users will clearly recognise: Siloing among teams leaves data stranded and managed as a technical, rather than analytical exercise. These are also problems holding back the use of structured data in the enterprise. One solution? Identify data-driven business goals and KPI’s. This is a topic we’ll be addressing in Singapore.
